POLITICAL HEALERS PIES PRACTICE

PIES is a practice of listening and encountering one another such that we allow ours and others’ holistic selves to show up in the space. PIES is a practice that guides us towards healing, resolution and wholeness. Thus it is a tool for creating spaces of validation within our work and in our engagements with one another.

PIES is an acronym for the four energy areas that fuel our personal ecosystems. It stands for:

  • Physical - Our physical body, as well as our physical surroundings. Tangible items that we can experience with our senses.

  • Intellectual - Our thoughts, ideas, beliefs, and ideologies. Our “head space”

  • Emotional - our feelings, our moods, our intuition. Our “heart space”

  • Spiritual - our spirit, our deep motivations, our drives and ambitions. Our “gut space”

These four energy areas correlate with the primary elements of our planet:

  • Physical (earth)

  • Intellectual (air)

  • Emotional (water)

  • Spiritual (fire)

Beyond this, we don’t define what physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual is for people. The key is not so much that everyone shares the same definitions of these energies, but that each person has the opportunity to put attention on these areas of themselves, to create internal balance and to create the context for authentic expression within people.

The one clarity that we do mention is that spiritual is NOT about the external judgement of what a “faithful believer does.” For example: Good Catholics go to church every Sunday and confess weekly. OR A good Christian prays every night. Or a good Muslim wears their hijab every day. Or a good Jewish person only eats kosher. The list can go on. This is NOT a measurement of how “good” you have been spiritually. This is about how YOUR SPIRIT FEELS. Do you feel alive? Do you feel joy? Or do you feel dead inside? Do you feel like there is a spiritual storm inside you? Are you hopeful for your future? And do you have a spiritual practice?
